Phase 1 of a streetscape plan first introduced in 2007 is nearly complete. The first tier of the Independence Square now has new sidewalks, narrower crosswalks, and landscaping (not to mention bringing the underground infrastructure up to today’s standards). Trees, plantings, tables, chairs, and benches, all add to the charm of historic buildings, museums, shops, restaurants, and cafes. Statues and public art are nestled in to a public square that is built for people, visitors and locals. The area hints at what is to come, with the Truman Connected multi-modal path that will be built next year, beginning at the Truman Library and continuing through our historic district to the Englewood Arts District. See the true impact this has made, creating a space to gather, linger, and stroll; recognizing the economic impact that over 100 businesses, a growing residential community, and 1400 employees make on our city.
