The official city, county, and state holiday is May 8, Harry’s birthday. We celebrate on the Saturday before with many ways to remember the man from Independence. This year festivities will include:
- Pics with the President (look alike) Liberty St & Maple Ave. time TBD
- Sign the community birthday card : Captain Truman statue
- Farmers Market 8 am – 10 am
- Liberty St. & Maple Ave. 10 am – noon
- Truman photo ops – Take pics with public art that celebrates President Truman and post on social media #HarrysTown
Other activities:
- Tequila Tasting at Wild About Harry (visit their Facebook event for more details)
- Tours of the Truman Home – get free tickets at the National Parks Service: 223 N. Main Street
- Visit the Harry S Truman Library & Museum
- Truman Trail – walk the sidewalks where Harry walked – bronze plaques tell about people and places along the way. View map here or pick up a brochure at the Truman Home Visitors Center: 223 N. Main Street.
- Farmers’ Market Opening Day – 8am – 1pm
